Short Escape · 5 days / 4 nights

Dawn in the Wild South

Dawn in leopard country, sunset beside the sea.

A compact safari and coast journey

The south changes from city to dry forest to ocean in a handful of hours. This short journey makes that transition the story: one easy night in Colombo, two nights within the soundscape of Yala and a final architectural pause between the Bentota River and the sea.

Wildlife is approached patiently, with a private jeep, an experienced naturalist and no promise of a particular sighting. A free afternoon and a single well-timed safari protect the quality of the experience; Galle Fort then offers a human-scale counterpoint on the road west.

Your itinerary

  1. 1

    Arrival without agenda

Meet the airport representative and transfer privately to Cinnamon Grand Colombo. Keep the day entirely flexible after the flight. A brief route and safari etiquette meeting confirms luggage, dietary needs, park conditions and the early departure required on Day 2.

Meals · Dinner at the hotel, subject to arrival time

  2. 2

A long road into the wild

Depart early for Yala, allowing approximately 5.5-6.5 hours with breakfast or comfort stops and a well-chosen lunch. The landscape opens gradually from the western lowlands to the drier south-east. Check in at Cinnamon Wild Yala by mid-afternoon. The remainder of the day is deliberately free for the pool, lagoon outlooks and an early dinner while the forest becomes active around the lodge.

Meals · Breakfast and dinner at the lodge

  3. 3

    Yala before sunrise

Leave before dawn with a private, professionally operated jeep and experienced naturalist for a half-day safari of approximately 4-5 hours. Follow tracks, water and bird calls rather than joining a species chase; elephants, sloth bear and leopard are possible but never guaranteed. Return for a late breakfast and a long rest. Near evening, join the resort's guided nature interpretation or stargazing experience when available and conditions allow.

  4. 4

Fort walls, then river and sea

Travel west after breakfast. Stop in Galle Fort for a concise hosted walk through ramparts, shaded lanes and selected historic interiors, allowing approximately 2 hours. Continue to Cinnamon Bentota Beach, arriving in the late afternoon after a total travel-and-touring day of approximately 6.5-8 hours. The final evening is free for the gardens and shoreline.

Meals · Breakfast and dinner at the hotel

  5. 5

    Departure

Transfer privately to the airport in approximately 1.5-2.25 hours with an appropriate check-in buffer. For a late-night flight, add a room extension and Lunuganga or a mangrove journey; these are optional and weather dependent.
