Cinnamon Shores & Southern Stories
Salt air, old ramparts and cinnamon-scented roads along the southern edge.
A slow journey along Sri Lanka's south coast
The south coast is often sold as one long beach. In reality it changes every hour: reef and surf town, fortified harbour, fishing bay, cinnamon country, mangrove river and the composed gardens of Bentota. This journey gives those differences room to appear.
Beach time remains central, but it is framed by human stories - fort architecture, lace and mask traditions, cinnamon growers and coastal food. Three nights in Mirissa create an unhurried middle, while Bentota closes the route with architecture and river landscape rather than another rushed sightseeing day.

Your itinerary
1
Arrival and a city-to-sea prologue
Meet at the airport and transfer to Cinnamon Grand Colombo. Keep the day light. A short evening walk along the seafront may be added, offering the first view of the Indian Ocean before the journey follows it south.
Stay · Cinnamon Grand Colombo
Meals · Dinner at the hotel, subject to arrival time
2
Down the coast to Hikkaduwa
Travel south in approximately 2.5-3 hours, choosing the old coastal road for selected stops or the expressway for comfort. Visit a responsible turtle conservation centre where there is no forced handling, then check in at Hikka Tranz. The afternoon is free for the pool, beach and reef outlook.
Stay · Hikka Tranz by Cinnamon
Meals · Breakfast and dinner at the hotel
3
Reef, rhythm and a slower morning
Begin with a guided reef or glass-bottom boat experience only if visibility, marine guidance and sea conditions are suitable. Otherwise, take a coastal cycle or village walk. Spend the afternoon at leisure. Near sunset, explore Hikkaduwa's creative side with a local host, avoiding a generic souvenir circuit.
Stay · Hikka Tranz by Cinnamon
Meals · Breakfast and dinner at the hotel
4
Galle Fort, then Mirissa
Drive to Galle and explore the UNESCO-listed fort with an experienced host. The walk focuses on ramparts, courtyards, religious buildings, trade and the layered communities that continue to live within the walls. Lunch at leisure, then continue to Vis Ta Vie in Mirissa. Settle into the beachfront setting for three nights.
Stay · Vis Ta Vie
Meals · Breakfast and dinner at the hotel
5
The ocean, approached responsibly
The base design uses a guided coast-and-village morning, returning for a free afternoon and an early night. In the appropriate season, a professionally operated marine-observation excursion may replace it as an optional supplement, subject to sea conditions, official operating guidance and suitable guest ages. Sightings are never guaranteed.
Stay · Vis Ta Vie
Meals · Breakfast and dinner at the hotel
6
Mangroves and cinnamon country
Travel a short distance to Koggala for a curated journey combining lagoon ecology, village roads and a working cinnamon landscape. Learn how true Ceylon cinnamon is cultivated and processed, then share a local lunch. Return to Mirissa in the afternoon. The final evening here is deliberately unscheduled.
Stay · Vis Ta Vie
Meals · Breakfast, local lunch and dinner at the hotel
7
North to Bentota
Follow the coast north to Bentota in approximately 2.5-3.5 hours, stopping at a selected craft community or mask workshop. Check in at Cinnamon Bentota Beach and enjoy the resort's river-meets-sea setting. Optional sunset mangrove cruise if arrival is early and conditions are favourable.
Stay · Cinnamon Bentota Beach
Meals · Breakfast and dinner at the hotel
8
Lunuganga and the art of tropical space
Visit Geoffrey Bawa's Lunuganga estate on a hosted tour. Return for lunch and a free afternoon. Guests may add a local artisan session in weaving, puppetry, drumming or coconut-leaf craft, or simply keep the final day open for the beach and gardens.
Stay · Cinnamon Bentota Beach
Meals · Breakfast and dinner at the hotel
9
Departure
Breakfast and private airport transfer in approximately 1.5-2.25 hours. For a late flight, retain hotel facilities where contracted or add a day room during final quotation.
